The Dog (狗 · Gǒu) is the eleventh animal of the cycle, and its fixed element is Earth. In the traditional reckoning the Dog is the branch 戌, the sign of loyalty, duty, and the watchful protection of what it loves. Recent Dog years include 2030, 2018, 2006, 1994, and 1982.
The Dog and the Goat are both Earth branches, and in folk BaZi culture the Ox, the Dog, and the Goat together form what is called a "punishment" group (三刑) — a set of three Earth signs whose energies rub against one another when they meet. Because 2027 is the Goat's year, the Dog is read as standing at a quiet angle of friction to it. The tradition does not treat this as calamity; it treats it as a call to attention — a year to mind stress, misunderstandings, and the small frictions that can grow when they are not watched.
The Dog's 2027 is built from Earth meeting Earth under a Fire stem. The Dog is Earth, the Goat's branch 未 is Earth, and the year's stem 丁 is Fire, which produces Earth — so the year feeds the Dog's own element even as the punishment group adds its friction. The traditional reading is of a year that is fundamentally supportive in element but asks for care in relation: the Dog is counseled to keep its native loyalty and watchfulness close, and to let patience smooth over the rough edges that a 三刑 year can bring.
The Chinese year begins at Lì Chūn (立春), around February 3–5, 2027. In folk custom, the punishment-group relationships are read as the most inward of the Tai Sui family — not loud clashes but quiet, cumulative frictions. For the Dog, the Fire Goat year's patient, consolidating rhythm is a good match: a year for steady duty, clear communication, and the Dog's own gift of loyal attention, which is exactly what a 丑戌未 year rewards.
