The Dragon (龙 · Lóng) is the fifth animal of the cycle, and its fixed element is Earth. In the traditional reckoning the Dragon is the branch 辰, the sign of ambition, presence, and the power to command attention. Recent Dragon years include 2024, 2012, 2000, 1988, and 1976.
The Dragon and the Goat sit at an easy distance in the twelve-animal circle, with no direct clash, harmony, or harm between 辰 and 未. 2027 is therefore not, for the Dragon, a year of sharp relationship friction. What shapes the year instead is element: both the Dragon and the Goat's branch are Earth, and the year's stem is Fire. Fire produces Earth, so 2027 feeds the Dragon's own element — traditionally read as a grounding, self-consistent year in which the Dragon's native strength is recognized rather than resisted.
The Dragon's 2027 is built from Earth meeting Earth, warmed by the year's Yin Fire (丁). Fire producing Earth means the year steadily adds to the Dragon's own element — a supportive structure, but one that can tip toward heaviness. The traditional counsel for an Earth sign in an Earth-heavy year is to keep movement in the picture: Earth that only accumulates without circulating becomes stagnant, so the Dragon is advised to stay active even while the year feels settled.
The Chinese year begins at Lì Chūn (立春), around February 3–5, 2027. The Dragon, the only legendary animal in the twelve, is traditionally read as the most commanding of the signs; the Fire Goat year's softer, more patient register is a quieter backdrop to it. The year's rhythm — a planning spring, a sustained summer, a consolidating autumn and winter — favors the Dragon's long view rather than sudden leaps.
