The Rooster (鸡 · Jī) is the tenth animal of the cycle, and its fixed element is Metal. In the traditional reckoning the Rooster is the branch 酉, the sign of precision, honesty, and the bright, exacting eye that notices what others miss. Recent Rooster years include 2029, 2017, 2005, 1993, and 1981.
The Rooster and the Goat stand at a gentle angle to one another, with no direct clash or harmony between 酉 and 未. What defines the Rooster's 2027 is element, and it is the Metal sign's familiar story: the year's stem 丁 is Fire, which melts Metal, while the year's branch 未 is Earth, which produces it. For the Rooster specifically, the tradition reads this through the sign's own gift — its precision. The Rooster is the animal that sorts and corrects, and a year of Fire-over-Earth gives it plenty to refine.
The Rooster's 2027 runs Metal between Yin Fire above and the Goat's Earth below. The traditional reading of Metal under Fire is tempering, not destruction: Metal is the one element that fire improves, shaping and sharpening it. The counsel that accompanies the year is the Rooster's own counsel, made larger — attend to exactness, keep standards high, and let the year's heat and weight turn raw material into something finished rather than letting the pressure scatter the work.
The Chinese year begins at Lì Chūn (立春), around February 3–5, 2027. The Rooster, traditionally the herald of dawn and the keeper of order, meets the Fire Goat year's patient, low-summer rhythm as a natural fit: a year for steady ordering and finishing, in which the Rooster's bright exactness is exactly the quality the year rewards.
