The Tiger (虎 · Hǔ) is the third animal of the cycle, and its fixed element is Wood. In the traditional reckoning the Tiger is the branch 寅, the sign of courage, initiative, and the rising energy of early spring. Recent Tiger years include 2022, 2010, 1998, 1986, and 1974.
The Tiger has no direct clash or harmony with the Goat — 寅 and 未 sit at an easy distance from one another — so 2027 is not, for the Tiger, a year of sharp friction. Its significance comes through the Five Elements instead. The Tiger's Wood is the very fuel of the year's Yin Fire: Wood produces Fire in the generating cycle, so the Tiger's native energy has a natural outlet in 2027. Traditional culture reads this as an expressive, outward year for the Tiger, in which what the Tiger initiates tends to catch and spread.
Three elements shape the Tiger's 2027: the Tiger's Wood, the year's Yin Fire (丁), and the Goat's Earth (未). Wood feeds Fire, and Fire in turn produces Earth — so the Tiger's Wood flows into a chain that ends in the year's grounding, nourishing Earth. The traditional counsel for a Wood sign in a Fire-over-Earth year is to keep an eye on stamina: Fire that is fed too generously burns through its fuel, so the Tiger is advised to pace its abundant initiative rather than spend it all at once.
The Chinese year begins at Lì Chūn (立春), around February 3–5, 2027 — fitting for the Tiger, whose season in the old calendar is early spring itself. For the Tiger, the Fire Goat year's rhythm is a natural one: a spring for starting, a summer of sustained rather than blazing heat, and an autumn and winter that favor finishing what spring began.
